Note from the Director of Bands
On behalf of the Kennesaw Mountain Band Organization, it is our pleasure to invite your band to participate in the Kennesaw Mountain Marching Invitational (KMMI). It is our desire to provide a sound music education experience for you and your students while at the same time, presenting an enjoyable event to all participants and spectators.
KMMI will be held this year on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Kennesaw Mountain High School Mustang Stadium. The Kennesaw Mountain High School campus, is located at 1898 Kennesaw-Due West Road, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
The entry fee is $100.00. Please note that a refundable $500 performance bond is required of all participants per GMEA requirements. If payment for the performance bond is submitted by check, this check will be returned to you on the day of the event at the registration table.
Please read over the attached Band Entry and Event Information as well as the Band Entry Form and Biography carefully. If you have any questions, please contact one of us at the following number or email address. For planning purposes, we would prefer to have completed entry forms as soon as possible but have set the entry deadline for Saturday, September 15, 2023.
All entry paperwork should be postmarked no later than Friday, September 15, 2023.

BAND ENTRY and EVENT INFORMATION
Entry Format - Comments Only
Bands entering this format will receive judges’ commentary on tape as well as judges’ sheets. In addition, bands will receive a participation award.
Entry Format - Contest
Bands entering this format will receive judges’ commentary on tape as well as the sheets. In addition, they will qualify for class placement, most outstanding percussion, colorguard and drum major awards as well as overall placement awards.
Classification
GMEA classification recommendations will be used and is based on the total number of wind players:
Class: Wind Player Count
A: 1 - 40
AA: 41 - 59
AAA: 60 - 79
AAAA: 70 - 100
AAAAA: 101+

Bands will be assigned performance times in reverse order within each class based on postmark date of the completed entry form. A band may move up to a higher class but may not move down to a lower one.
Judging Panel
Judges will be selected based on their expertise in their field. Nationally recognized educators/adjudicators will be considered during our selection process. It is our mission to provide positive feedback as well as suggestions for improvement in the areas of performance, design and individual achievement.

Bands will be evaluated on a caption evaluation system with judging location as follows:

Rating System and Scoring Conversion

85.0 - 100.0 = I Superior
70.0 - 84.9 = II Excellent
55.0 - 69.9 = III Average
0.0 - 54.9 = IV Fair
Best in Class Awards
Trophies will be awarded to the best band in each class. This will be based on the total and average of all band and captions scores.
Percussion, Auxiliary and Drum Major Awards
Awards for outstanding percussion, auxiliary, and drum major will be presented for each competition class. Band Entry Formats Comments Only will not be eligible for these awards.
Awards Ceremony
Following the performance of the final unit, each band should provide at least one student representative to the front sideline for the awards presentation. Ratings and awards will be announced when all representatives are in place.
Tickets/Admission
Tickets for the competition are $13.00 for admission except for children 3 and under who will be admitted free. Directors/Staff will receive passes and all band members will have their hands stamped. Chaperone passes will be provided at a ratio of 1 per every 20 band students.
Field Crew Passes
Each participating band will be given up to 25 field passes. Only those individuals with Director/Staff or Field Crew credentials will be allowed on the field.
Field Crew Assistance
Trailers and equipment haulers will be available to move equipment from the warm-up area to the performance area.

Make checks payable to KMBO. Please be sure to include an additional check for the $500.00 GMEA performance bond deposit, which will be held until the day of the event and returned to you at check-in on the day of the event.
Completed entry forms should be postmarked by Friday, September 15, 2023.
